Hi lovely people!! I just wanted to do a quick post to share my OB/GYN study schedule! It was adapted from a schedule I found online (can’t remember where) so I can’t take credit for it. I scored a 89% on the shelf exam which is equal to the 95th percentile nationally. Hopefully, this guide will help you do the same or better!!
Resources I used:
- Case Files
- Uworld questions
- Uwise questions (APGO question bank, paid for by my school)
- NBMEs
- AMBOSS questions
- Helpful, but not necessary. I only did them because I wanted more questions.
- Anki
- Zanki and Bros
- Made my own cards based on my incorrect Uworld/Uwise questions.
What I did:
- Uworld x 1.5
- I went through it once and marked questions I got wrong or right but the wrong reasons. I then redid my marked questions.
- I completed them on random, tutor mode.
- Uwise x 2
- Case Files x 1
- 4 NBMEs x 1.5
- I went through them once, then quickly skimmed over all the questions/answers the morning before my exam.
- AMBOSS questions x 1
- Anki every day!
My highest yield studying advice:
Learn from your patients and study alongside the material you’re being exposed to in your rotation. For example, if you have a patient with pre-eclampsia, read up and do questions on pre-e that night (don’t do questions on something like gynecologic cancers)! Being able to relate study material to your patients will help you retain the information better!
Template of my schedule:
Lily’s OB/GYN 8-week Study Schedule
It’s quite a rigorous schedule, but if you stick to it, you will do well! One of the hardest things about third year is forcing yourself to study when you get home from a long 8-12 hour day at the hospital. But, you need to develop a habit of working even when you don’t feel like it. Anyone can take the night off when they’re tired, but making yourself do even 10-20 questions will set you apart!
Note: This study method worked out for my learning style which is studying a little bit every day versus cramming the last few weeks. If you’re more of a crammer or if you have a 6-week rotation, adjust the template accordingly! 🙂
I hope this was helpful!! Let me know if you have any questions!!
Great post!
